Warszawa 11 listopada

11 listopada (November 11), Day Independence

After All Saints Day a little over a week ago, this is another big national holiday widely celebrated. Had already shown at least a photo of national flags, which in recent days have been everywhere. By chance was the happy coincidence of being in Warsaw this day, the day when Poles celebrate their independence.

But independence from whom?! From Poland

obviously, but as this is a complicated story in which the formation of kingdoms, reunification, dismemberment and invasions proliferate over time, it would be difficult to guess at first sight in that year we celebrate the Independence of Poland. Well, revealing the curiosity, independence is celebrated during the formation of the Second Republic of Poland, November 11, 1918, just after the First World War when the Allies decided to rebuild the nation Poland, virtually nonexistent since the century. XVI. (I had mentioned that perhaps the post I did about Gdansk).

In Warsaw there were great celebrations of course. since military parade, the guard changing of the guard at the monument of the Unknown Soldier, extras, sale of flags, etc.. Many things happen beyond the streets are filled with people, flags and colors of Poland. I bought a red and white with the inscription 1918, and a reproduction of a newspaper at the time, that enverguei proudly as a good polish, LOL ...

well I can not say if the Poles are very patriotic or nationalistic, at least compared with other countries typical of Europe. At first glance I would say yes, but a deeper analysis may reveal that this is not so, particularly amongst the young population in the nation for the sense they may not mean much. What is sure is that this question of identity and independence is important for the country. After all, over the centuries, Poland was too often overwhelmed by other nations and peoples, we must not forget that it was only 18 years ago that Poland would unravel the power of communism and Moscow.

People thronged the streets completely.

the streets of Warsaw

InĂªs the city's main attractions, but also search for new spaces and find the real Warsaw. Perhaps those sites that make this city be different from the typical European capital city and tourist destination. We got an alternative guide at the tour desk, I discovered a blog of a Portuguese living in Warsaw (unfortunately I lost the link!). The guide is called "Free map for young travelers," and exists in various cities in Europe, where you can see this link . The Guide to Warsaw itself, can be viewed and downloaded from this site another.

Fartamo us walking around the city in search of some numerous locations marked in the guide ranging from historic sites, bars, places to eat, shops, parks, etc! It's really one of the most interesting guides I've ever seen. Some sites are so melted that even met! However, even went to a vintage store , the other puppets and BD, we walk in the ghetto area, we had a building of Norman Foster ... This in addition to other typical attractions like the historic center. It was an eventful day in which we find at the end of my staff had gone home to do a road trip through Poland and it was there that day.
Dinner was at the residence of Alessandro (my another Italian friend) and even went to a party in someone's apartment Erasmus. The night I ended up being kicked out of a nightclub, or at least barred because it was the only entry in the locker room area. The ale had created some problems and when security arrived I thought it was that was causing problems (when he was just trying to calm the Alessandro) and grabbed me and said he had to leave. He was great, I had no chance! : D

Metropolitan, the architect Norman Foster.

Oh! It's sand! And some have salt ... For the times that the snow is still to come.

Old building housing a Communist. According to the guide there is an art gallery somewhere in one of these buildings in that area. Unfortunately, could not figure out. Thanks a furtive visit to the interior of the building and the "shoe" improvised.
